Sitting is KILLING us!

Up until the last hundred years or so, humans didn’t sit much at all. Now, over 90% of our activities are done sitting down: we work, drive, surf the web, watch TV ...all while sitting on our rear ends.

Click above and read "Sitting is the New Smoking" for an explanation of the more serious health issues associated with prolonged sitting, including that it literally takes years off your lifespan. But here, I'm going to address the physical and postural problems.


        The problem is that the “flexed” sitting position is far from our natural standing posture:


  • When sitting, we are bent at the truck, which rounds the low-back, making it weak, sore, and stiff.

  • Sitting weakens all our core muscles, making our tummy flabby, which can lead to Pelvic Floor Dysfunction.

  • It bends our knees, which shortens and tightens the hamstrings, causing hip and knee problems.

  • Shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, and fingers all suffer from the resulting tension, from rotator cuff problems to Carpal Tunnel. 

But maybe most importantly, the muscles meant to hold the head

upright can't, so it falls forwards and down - pulling the shoulders

up and out of neutral, which causes tremendous strain on the muscles 

of the spine as they work to keep us from smashing face-first into the

computer screen!

                             So ...what can you do?
